The App Store / Google Play Store says my device isn’t compatible or I need to update my OS version


(iOS) App Store

If you see a message in the App Store that tells you “This application requires iOS 11 or later” when you try to download the app, it is likely that you need to update the iOS version on your device.

You can update your iOS version in 5 easy steps.

How to update your iOS version

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer (this step is optional but recommended).

  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.

  3. Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone or iPad.

  4. Tap ‘General’, then tap ‘Software Update’.

    • (ℹ️) See two software update options available? Choose the one that you prefer to install.

  5. Tap ‘Install Now’. If you see ‘Download and Install’ instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap ‘Install Now’.

Once you’ve completed the steps above, check what version of iOS your device is now running (under ‘Settings’ > ‘General > ‘Software Update’):

  • If your device is on iOS 11 or above:

    You should be able to head back to the App Store and download the Hinge Health app using

    these instructions.

  • If your device is on iOS 10 or below:

    Unfortunately if your device is not able to run iOS 11, you will not be able to use the Hinge Health app on that device. But don’t worry, we’re here to help ensure you can still participate in the program! Click here for assistance.

(Android) Google Play Store

You can update your Android device’s version in 3 easy steps.

How to update your Android device’s version

  1. Open your device's ‘Settings’ app.

  2. Near the bottom, tap ‘System’ and then ‘System update’.

  3. You'll see your update status. Follow any steps on the screen.

Once you’ve completed the steps above, check what version of Android your device is now running (under ‘Settings’ > ‘About [device]’ > ‘Android version’):

  • If your device is on Android 5 or above:

    You should be able to head back to the Google Play Store and download the Hinge Health app using these instructions.

  • If your device is on Android 4 or below:

    Unfortunately if your device is not able to run Android 5, you will not be able to use the Hinge Health app on that device. But don’t worry, we’re here to help ensure you can still participate in the program! Click here for assistance.
