Dr. Claudia Canales:

Hi, my name is Claudia and I'm a physical therapist here at Hinge Health. In this video, I'll go over everything you need to know so you feel prepared for your first video visit. A video visit is a one-on-one video call with one of our doctors of physical therapy. While it's slightly different experience from an in-person visit, research shows that telehealth is equally effective at reducing pain and improving function and you can do it from the comfort of your own home. In the initial video visit, you'll meet with your physical therapist and talk to them about your pain or recent injury. They'll want to know about any of the challenges you experience and how your day to day activities are impacted. You may also be asked to demonstrate certain movements so your physical therapist can observe your mobility. Then you'll work together to create a plan for the strategies, exercises, and activity modifications that will help you succeed in meeting recovery and personal goals.

To prepare for your video visit, make sure you're on the Hinge Health app and connected to Wi-Fi. If it's available to you, find a clear, open and private space where you can move around and be seen on camera. It'll be best if you can prop up your device using a stand or anything else that allows you to be hands-free. You also want to wear comfortable clothes that won't restrict your movement. There'll be plenty of time during the video visit to ask questions and talk through your care plan. We'll be with you every step of the way and help you develop the habits you need for a sustainable recovery.
