Hinge Health Names Ryan Russell SVP of Design & UX and Hassan Asghar CISO

SAN FRANCISCO — (Aug. 17, 2021)Hinge Health, the world’s most complete Digital Musculoskeletal Clinic™, announced today two additions to its executive leadership team: Ryan Russell, senior vice president of design and user experience (UX), and Hassan Asghar, chief information security officer (CISO).

Russell joins Hinge Health after nine years as director of user experience (UX) at Amazon, where he led the design of a diverse set of innovative products, including Prime Now, Amazon Key, Hub by Amazon, and Amazon Flex. While at Amazon, Russell founded and grew a multidisciplinary Human Centered Design group from zero to 135+ UXers across five studios in five cities. Before his time at Amazon, Russell created and led McAfee’s Design Studio; launched Cohdoo Highlight, an award-winning audio recording app; founded the nonprofit For the Next, and designed novel consumer computing experiences at Intel. Russell holds an MBA from George Fox University and a BS in software engineering from Oregon Institute of Technology.

“As a lifelong distance runner with back pain issues, I can relate to the struggles our participants face: pain that puts a pause on your life and a feeling of fear that you won’t get back to normal,” said Russell. “I came to Hinge Health to work for a customer-centric, design-focused company with a mission that matters to me. As a UX design leader, I am excited about the opportunity to innovate a whole new frontier in healthcare and redefine the user experience across the digital and physical worlds of care.”

“Ryan’s experience in designing cutting-edge products at Amazon will help us lead and build a UX design team with the best minds to create next-generation digital health technologies and solve some of healthcare’s biggest challenges in the musculoskeletal space,” said Daniel Perez, co-founder and CEO of Hinge Health.

As CISO, Asghar leads company-wide information security and IT operations programs. Before joining Hinge Health, he was senior vice president and chief information security officer at Bremer Bank in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Prior to this role, he built an IT risk and controls function at UnitedHealth Group. He started his career at Deloitte & Touche, where he consulted with a number of Fortune 500 clients in the healthcare, medical device, and financial services industries. He holds a BA degree in accounting and management information systems from Luther College.

“Joining Hinge Health isn’t just about innovation and interesting work. We’re actually improving people’s lives,” Asghar said.

“Hassan exhibits a true growth mindset, which we at Hinge Health consider a prerequisite. He has experience building security programs from the ground up and has a big-picture understanding of the important role played by our information technology systems,” Perez said.
