Treatment Options for Leg

The best treatment for your leg pain depends on its cause. Here are a few strategies from our Hinge Health physical therapists for mild to moderate pain. Discuss your options with your provider.

  • Exercise therapy. Stretching and strengthening exercises can reduce leg pain and improve overall joint function. 

  • Change positions. Alternate positions and take movement breaks to improve circulation, reduce muscle stiffness, and prevent prolonged pressure on specific areas.

  • Ice and heat. Alternate between an ice pack and heating pad every 20 minutes to reduce inflammation and relieve stiffness.

  • OTC medication. Pain relievers such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and acetaminophen can alleviate leg pain. Make sure they're safe for you to take.

  • Compression. Use compression stockings or wraps to improve circulation and reduce swelling in your lower legs. 

  • Elevation. Raise your leg above heart level to decrease swelling and improve blood flow.

  • Footwear. Wear supportive shoes to reduce strain and improve comfort when active.

  • Massage therapy. Professional or self-massage can ease muscle tension and improve circulation in your legs.
